Veronika decides to die...

She believed herself to be completely normal. Two very simple reasons lay behind her decision to die, and she was sure that, were she to leave a note explaining, many people would agree with her.

The first reason: Everything in her life was the same and, once her youth was gone, it would be downhill all the way, with old age begining to leave irreversible marks, the onset of illness, the departure of friends. She would gain nothing by continuing to live; indeed, the likelihood of suffering would only increase.

The second reason was more philosophical: Veronika read the newspapers, watched TV, and she was aware of what was going on in the world. Everything was wrong, and she had no way of putting things right-that gave her a sense of complete powerlessness.

Does this ring a bell with you?

The book doesn't jkustify committing suicide, on the contrary, it says that it's so wrong to do that and that if you think well you will see that it's is not worth it.

That what I got from the review.

Knight. you're right. but my point is that apart from suicide, I think that what's she saying about life is kinda logical.

lizard of oz I enjoy reading such books, I just feel that the author is talking logic, and most of the time he is speaking our -or at least- my mind, on the contrary of books full of fancy and illusion that serve nothing but a bit of suspense and wasting time.
I read only 50 pages of the book so far, haven't finished reading it yet, so till now i have no idea what message Paulo Coelho is about to deliver, but since u read the review, oh well, it's a good thing to say that committing suicide is so wrong.
I don't know, perhaps i'll reach a stage when such books would bore me, just like they do to u, who knows :D
